Many of the creatures on the mountain are weak to Projectiles. Rosa may be able to outdamage Cecil, especially since her Aim command ensures that her attacks always hit as many times as possible (never use her Battle command, as Aim is vastly superior). Make sure not to run out of arrows, though. Speaking of Rosa, her Pray command comes in handy as a source of free healing when she has nothing better to do, but it's both weak and prone to failure, so don't rely on it. At the summit of the mountain, the party finds a lone man fighting off monsters. |

"Achoooo"? The Monk strikes, killing two of the monsters facing him. Three more approach. |

The Monk engages, switching to a battle screen, where we see that his name is Yang. He kills off the monsters, but takes some damage in the process. The final and largest monster approaches. |

The party engages, with Yang filling the empty slot in the formation (which should be in the front row if you've arranged everyone else properly). Cecil and Yang will should be doing most of the damage in this battle. Rosa ought to cast Slow once or twice, then heal or cast Protect if available. Rydia can either add to the damage with Chocobo or assist in healing as needed, and Gilbart might as well attack, for what little good it does. The Mother Bomb is weak against Dark. Cecil's attack will hurt nicely. After taking 1000 total damage, the Mother Bomb enlarges, and the following message soon appears: |

Soon after, the Mother Bomb uses Large Explosion, striking all allies with Flame magic damage. Gilbart should Hide to avoid it, since everyone takes full damage regardless of the number of targets. After exploding, the Mother Bomb is replaced with six lesser Bomb-type enemies. Cecil's Darkness and Yang's Kick (to a lesser extent) come in handy here. The bombs may Self-Destruct if not killed quickly, so try to at least weaken them first to reduce the damage. |

Monk: I am grateful for your help in a dangerous situation. I am {Yang}, head of Fabul's Monks. We were in the midst of training here on Hobs Mountain when we were attacked by a swarm of monsters and all save me were wiped out. So many of such skill.... 『We're in the middle of heading to Fabul ourselves. {Rosa}: A man called {Golbeza} is using Baron to get the Crystals.... |

{Yang}: Which would mean Fabul's Wind Crystal too! {Gilbart}: Yes... Damcyan's Crystal has already been seized. 『Fabul will be targeted next. {Yang}: ! ...what a mess. The main Monk force is wiped out. Those in the castle have only barely begun training. If we're attacked now, we can't put up a fight! |
{Yang}: That means they will try to capture our Crystal of Air as well! {Edward}: No doubt. Damcyan was already attacked and had the crystal taken away. {Cecil}: Fabul is next! {Yang}: But...! We are now helpless. I am the only survivor of our main forces. Those in the castle have just started on their training! |

Unlike most other characters to this point, Yang is a fighter. Put him in the front row for best results. Also note that he joins nearly naked, so give him any spare equipment you may have. His special battle commands are of some use, but he should probably just attack normally most of the time. |
