MASSIVE WONDERS

This one has so many words written one way and pronounced another it's almost ridiculous. Overall, definitely higher intensity than the first opening theme, but there's also more drama in the plotline to warrant it. I like how the last stanza takes several previous thoughts and tweaks them slightly to increase the impact—"I want to tell you" moves into action with "I'm on my way to tell you," "even without any impassioned words" becomes the more direct "I don't need any impassioned words," and my favorite, the part about accepting even weakness becomes turning even weakness into strength.

誰でもなく君の為にできること
僕は想う 僕は願う まっすぐに

What I can do, not for just anyone, but for you,
I feel, wish, earnestly.

I was clinging to personal rules frozen in uncertainty.
My past is adorned with excuses,
And I want to move beyond it.

Interlude ~7 seconds
愛しいもの 大事なもの 増えるたび
心の中 カギをかけて閉じ込めた
Itoshii mono daiji na mono fueru tabi
Kokoro no naka KAGI wo kakete tojikometa
Every time I gained more precious things, beloved things,
I locked them away, shutting them up inside my heart.
温もりを手にすることに慣れてなかった
いつかくる「もしも」に恐れ動けずいた
Nukumori wo te ni suru koto ni narete nakatta
Itsuka kuru "moshimo" ni osore ugokezu ita
I wasn't used to receiving warmth.
I couldn't move, afraid of the "what ifs" that might come.
宵闇の月 僕を誘う
惑いのveil 消し去っていく
隠してた ズルい影*
弱さも全部受け止めた時に
初めて感じた「守りたいもの」は
いつもそこに…

Kakushite ta ZURUi jibun
Yowasa mo zenbu uketometa toki ni
Hajimete kanjita "mamoritai mono" wa
Itsumo soko ni...
Nani mo iwazu tada dakishimeru
The twilight moon calls out to me.
It wipes away the veil of my confusion,
When my concealed, secretive self
Accepted everything, even my weakness.
The first "something I want to protect" I ever felt
Is always there...
Not saying anything, I simply embrace it.

* The kanij 影 (shadow) is given the reading 自分 (self).

Mada mienu yoru* no saki ni

Jounetsuteki na kotoba wa iranai

In the early morning sky, my mind is on you.
Once my open, honest voice could reach you,
My concealed, secretive self
Turned everything, even my weakness, into strength.
Gathering up the seeds of a miracle
That will dye the starry jewels in the cosmos crimson,
I'm on my way to tell you, shattering delusions,
What lies still unseen beyond the dark future.
I don't need any impassioned words.
We're here now, and that's my answer and truth.

* The kanij 影 (shadow) is given the reading 自分 (self), the kanij 宇宙 (space) are given the reading てん (heavens), the kanji 宝石 (jewels) are given the reading ほし (stars), the kanji 種 (seeds) is given the reading つぶ (grains), the kanji 未来 (future) are given the reading よる (night), the kanji 想像 (imaginings) are given the reading まぼろし (illusions), and the word 答え (answer) is given the reading 真実 (truth). Phew! There's also a key change in the middle of this stanza, as if it weren't complicated enough already, though I can't deny I love key changes.
